Experienced Circumcision Doctor – Dr. Mohammad Sharier
Dr. Mohammad Sharier is a well known and respected general practicioner and surgeon with both a personal practice and hospital affiliations. He performs circumcision procedures at the Gentle Procedures Sydney circumcision clinic as his primary medical practice, as well as performing skin cancer surgeries.
Dr. Sharier has chosen to focus his clinic on a limited number of surgical procedures and Pollock Technique™ circumcision is one of these procedures. After extensive research on circumcision methods in use today in Australia and around the world, Dr. Mohammad chose to have extensive training with Dr. Neil Pollock, one of the world’s foremost authorities on baby and child circumcision.
Dr. Pollock’s research into developing a safe, quick and virtually pain free approach to circumcision has been widely recognized in North America as well as in Australia. Dr. Sharier is proud to bring Dr. Pollock’s techniques to NSW, and his clinic has grown enormously as a result. Parents are relieved to have a virtually pain-free option for the circumcision of their baby boys – and older boys and adult men also benefit equally from Pollock Technique™ circumcision.
Gentle Procedures Clinic specializes in a virtually painless circumcision operation for baby boys, older boys, teens and adult men. Our clients come from across New South Wales because our circumcision procedure is felt by many to be the most comfortable method for getting a circumcision done at any age.
Our team of dedicated medical professionals understands the concerns of parents for their babies, as well as the situation of newborns being integrated into family life. We do our best to provide a private and personalized experience for our clients.
Adult men are also an important client group at our circumcision clinic – because there are few facilities with the level of focus, expertise, and experience that Gentle Procedures brings to adult circumcision. Our in-office procedure under local anaesthetic is the most convenient procedure available, and offers excellent cosmetic results.
Our doctor and staff are happy to assist you with any questions or concerns that you may have, and are available by phone, or by booking a consultation. The clinic generally has appointments available within a few days and you can request an appointment now if desired.

Infant Circumcision our Centre
We believe that there is nothing better for ensuring a baby’s comfort than the presence of a parent. Your baby is always with you, and you are welcome and encouraged to be in the private room during the procedure. Parents are never asked to wait in another room while the circumcision is being done. Soft music is played creating a calm, relaxing environment for your baby.
Babies, if they remain awake during the procedure, are soothed by a pacifier made up of natural ingredients. At Gentle Procedures, it is not uncommon for babies to sleep right through their circumcision. We really are gentle.
We recognize that warmth is part of a comfortable environment for your baby. The procedure room will be kept warm and is equipped with a local thermostat so that each family can create the right temperature for their baby.
Why Gentle Procedures Sydney for Adult Circumcision?
Adult circumcision is undertaken by our clients for a variety of reasons. Some men get themselves circumcised at an adult age for personal or cosmetic reasons. Other seek relief from an overly tight foreskin (including phimosis) or other conditions that can be ameliorated via an adult circumcision procedure.
Whatever the reason a mature man seeks to get circumcised (at any age), we are pleased to offer adult circumcision care at Gentle Procedures Sydney. Our circumcision doctor performs adult circumcision on a daily basis and our proven Pollock Technique™ is known to deliver the desired cosmetic results with the minimum of discomfort. Importantly – a general anaesthetic is not required – and this significantly reduces the risk and complexity of the procedure. With the use of multiple local anesthetics only, we eliminate the need for a hospital setting and are able to perform the circumcision procedure for adult age males in our circumcision clinic on an in-office-procedure basis.

Circumcision Considerations and Research
Each year, there are millions of circumcisions performed. Newborn circumcision, when performed properly, is quick and safe. The medical benefits accrue from infancy through old age.
It is Dr. Sharier’s position (as well as the position of the Can. Pediatric Society) is that; “When parents are making a decision about circumcision they should be advised of the present state of medical knowledge about its benefits and harms. Their decision may ultimately be based on personal, religious or cultural factors”.
In 2012, The American Academy of Pediatrics published in a Policy Statement that; “current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks”. For more information on the risks and benefits of circumcision, please visit our Media page to find links to original Australian policy statements and studies – including a 2016 paper published in the Journal of Urology which concludes that the benefits of circumcision may have been previously understated. The authors (including Dr. Neil Pollock) find that circumcision affords important benefits to men.

Why do Syndey parents choose to circumcise their sons?
An infant circumcision is often undertaken for cultural and religious reasons, and there can be health benefits as well. Our Muslim clients circumcise their babies in accordance with their traditions, and many other families simply choose to carry on a family tradition, or seek the health benefits that may come from male circumcision:
It reduces the risk of urinary tract infection.
It reduces the risk of penile infection also called balanoposthitis.
It eliminates the need for circumcision later in life when up to 6% of boys will require a circumcision because of various problems.
It reduces the risk of getting some sexually transmitted diseases including Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and AIDS (HIV).
It reduces the risk of penile cancer and cervical cancer in partners.
Circumcised men have less risk of sexual dysfunction later in life.
Why do some Australian parents choose not to circumcise their sons?
They may be concerned that they could be doing a procedure on an otherwise healthy baby that may cause pain or complications.
They wonder whether their child will wish that he had not been circumcised at a later time.
Some parents can be less interested in following cultural and religious traditions.
They are unsure of the medical reasons in favor of a circumcision.
Circumcision Clinic FAQ – What is circumcision?
Circumcision is a simple procedure in which the foreskin that sheathes the head of the penis is removed. Since foreskin traps bacteria and other infectious agents, its removal may improve genital hygiene and reduce risk of disease over the lifetime of the boy and his future sexual partners.
In 2012, the American Academy of Paediatrics issued a statement that the health benefits of circumcision outweighed the risks. Thus, circumcision for your son is a personal decision that you must make with your partner after weighing the benefits and risks and often involves religious or cultural preferences as well.
For adults, it is a personal decision based on personal, cosmetic or health reasons.
Key Questions About Infant Male Circumcision in Australia
Circumcision has been the topic of debate for many decades. In the past, procedures were deemed unnecessary and stressful by some, but times have changed. Due to medical advancements, Doctors can now conduct virtually pain free circumcision procedures which are quick, painless, effective and successful and the benefits of circumcision are more widely understood.
There are now many significant studies and associated evidence linking circumcision to improved health and lower incidences of serious and deadly diseases. The evidence of the benefits of circumcision, coupled with medical advancements and improved circumcision techniques has resulted in increased public awareness, acceptance and a vast increase in the demand for infant circumcision.
The medical team at the Gentle Procedures Clinic only use the renowned Pollock Technique™, which is very quick and virtually pain free and is associated with low complication rates. Our Doctors and staff are all educated and trained in the procedure and benefits of circumcision, and are dedicated to making your experience with us as pleasant as possible.
There are some potential health benefits to male infant circumcision and there are also some reasons not to circumcise baby boys. Our recommendation is that you make an informed a decision as possible, and the answer to the question of why to circumcise that you come to will be unique to you and your family.
Circumcision is part of both Judaism and Islam, and many Christians and people of other religious backgrounds also choose circumcision for health and cosmetic reasons, or to continue family tradition. Many Australian men are circumcised, as infant circumcision was routinely done on a majority of male babies in the 1970’s for health reasons.
Types of Circumcision
There are different circumcision techniques practiced by different doctors but the main “circumcision types” are simply circumcised and uncircumcised. We are occasionally asked about a “tight circumcision” or a “low circumcision”, but our method is designed to give the same result in all cases and we do not offer a choice of different circumcision types – and we apply our method in all cases except where a patient may present with a unique situation requiring a unique approach.
At Gentle Procedures Syndney circumcision clinic we only use the Pollock Technique™ because we believe it is a safe, convenient and comfortable method.
The method we use minimizes pain for the patient via application of multiple modalities to reduce it, including:
Panadol before the procedure
Numbing cream applied before the anaesthetic injection
A dorsal penile block (a freezing injection) that removes all feeling from the penis
A sugar pacifier to keep the baby distracted (not used in adult circumcisions)
Post-circumcision follow-up to quickly spot any issues.
Additionally, our doctor also controls environmental factors in the procedure room to maximize the patient’s comfort. We maintain the temperature at a warm and comfortable level and may play music to help provide a calm ambiance during the brief operation.
It is possible to get baby boys circumcised in a non-medical setting for religious reasons. We strongly recommend that even in this case the circumcision be performed only by trained, experienced, and licensed medical doctors. Many ritual circumcision practitioners meet these criteria, and some may not.
If you are considering a circumcision done by someone who may not be a licensed doctor, we recommend a careful evaluation of their credentials.
